New Brunswick!

I know it's been awhile since I've written anything, I had a whole list of our house renos that I was going to share with everyone but I had to take a couple of months off after the move.

I feel terrible about that but family comes first; it's been an adjustment for everyone and I wanted to make sure it was as easy as possible for the kids.

I promise, I took pictures and I WILL get the posts made about the renovations. Things are calming down around here. I have all of my Christmas shopping done and since orders will slow down for Christmas gifts that people are wanting made I should have a little time to write the posts for you to read.

BUT today I just wanted to let everyone know that we are settling in nicely in New Brunswick. We almost have all of our unpacking done and we are getting ready to start working on our next retail store in the new year. I have missed having a store and I'm super excited to have one again. In the meantime I will make all orders from my workshop at home and send them out as soon as possible.

Thank you all for your patience with us during this move. We appreciate everything. We are running a week long sale to show our appreciation for your continued support. Thank you all. Visit our Webstore today to save $10 off of your $50 purchase, $20 off of your $100 purchase and $30 off your $150 purchase.

Before and Afters: Kitchen

Welcome to another renovation story.
Today I'm going to share with you the before and after of my kitchen renovation.
The photo above is from the listing when we purchased our home, this is what the kitchen looked like when we walked through and looked at the listing.

I instantly fell in love with this house.

I mean it was amazing from the outside and as soon as I walked in and saw the spacious kitchen and the envisioned all of the entertaining that could be done in here, Our New Years gatherings were going to be amazing in this kitchen, and they certainly were.

It wasn't long before the renovations had to start in this room because it turned out that there were a few layers of moldy flooring where they had an old leaky deep freeze in the kitchen. You could see by the reinforced layer they had set down on the floor and topped with metal floor transition strips... weird, should have known something was up!

As you can see we took out a lot of flooring... FIVE layers to be exact.

You could definitely see the age in the floors.

I am always fascinated when I tear up flooring and discover the years gone by. My husband and I are both fans of "original" wood flooring and if it's in a house you can be sure we are going to find it and we are going to expose it for the truly beautiful thing that it is!

In this case we stripped all the levels of flooring and sanded and cleaned the floor, then applied a couple coats of Tung Oil to give it a beautiful, natural, look to it. I feel this really brought out the natural beauty of the original floor boards. Check out the "after" photo below to see the floors.
Above you can see just some of the flooring we took out. What a mess!

Below is my finished product. I loved my kitchen, I spent many hours sitting on that stool at the end of the island typing right here on my blog, making some customers orders, editing photographs, you name it and I likely did it sitting there. I spent A LOT of late nights snacking there, searching for our next home on, when I was missing my husband.
It was MY spot. And I loved it.

It took a lot of convincing on my part to get my husband to agree with my vision in this room. He likes to fight me every step of the way when he doesn't know what something is going to turn out like. I on the other hand have faith everything will work out perfectly. I throw caution to the wind and I just go with it. My vision turned out beautifully in this kitchen.

As we were nearing the end of renovations and getting closer to time to sell I had to stop working for awhile, which some of you likely know. I took a longer break than I had planned to but the renovations took longer than I expected, especially after my husband moved to New Brunswick and I no longer had his weekend help.

For those who've asked what I used to complete this kitchen here is a list....

The cupboard doors are stained with my favorite Varathane Stain - Weathered Grey I love to use it on my signs and it was an easy choice for my kitchen doors.

Tile is 12x12 Daltile Ceramic Octagon/Dot Mosaic Tile. I loved the look of this tile and thought it would work really well with the look I was going for, as well as the colors were just perfect for my white and grey theme.

I built the stools myself and painted the legs with BeautiTone Milk & Cookies paint from the Sesame Street collection of paints. The top is stained with another one of my favorite Varathane Stains - Kona. If anyone is interested I will be posting directions for the stools so you can DIY these lovely items if you'd like.

I don't have a photo of the other side of the kitchen island but it was a dresser that we added our burned counter top to and then added the two legs to the front to support the overhang of the island. I will post more about doing this in another post as well.

I think that's a wrap for this renovation. I am very happy with my kitchen, totally in love with the feeling it gives me to sit here and relax, cooking has never been so fun with EVERYONE being able to pitch in around the island and ample counter space.

I truly believe that big kitchens like this that allow for more than one "cooker" are a great way to bring families together and have a little family time as well.

Until next time... have a wonderful day/week/month/year/LIFE!

Before and Afters: Bathrooms

One of my favorite rooms in my house is the downstairs bathroom, it's the one where the tub is. The one where I spend my lonely nights relaxing after a long day of work, family life, cleaning, some times renovating, too. I love laying back and enjoying a nice hot (very hot) bath. Sadly when we bought our house there was a very shallow tub that wasn't good for soaking. It just had to go.
We found this wonderful tub that you can soak in and get wet, like everything gets wet. It's so relaxing and comfortable. No more sloshing back and forth from side to side trying to get the top covered and keep the sides warm. Bathtubs are not always friendly after you age a bit. I took out the ugly green tub, which was rotting by the way, and I replaced it with the most fabulous tub. Changed the lights, the sink, counter top and toilet. I removed the walls to expose the original wood wall and took away the drop ceiling and removed the three layers of vinyl flooring. I love the end result. I find my new bathroom to be very relaxing.

Then we move upstairs. The ugly green continues.... Just reversed? We removed the very small shower stall that I could not use comfortably at all. I don't even think my husband ever used it in the short time he lived with us here but we installed a new glass corner shower, opening up the room a great deal. It feels so much larger now. We also swapped out the toilet and all faucets and lighting just like we did downstairs, gave it a beautiful white paint job and we are left with a very lovely three piece bath upstairs, as well.
I really love the improvements that we've made in this house. I hope that the people who buy it enjoy it as well. If it wasn't for being posted across the country we definitely would not be selling this house. But, as with this lifestyle, the winds of change have blown this way and we've adjusted our sails to head East and enjoy a little coastal life for a few years.

I promise that Payette Custom Creations will be opening up for business again in the very near future. We are just 2 weeks away from moving into our new house. So, as long as everything goes our way we will be ready to start taking and making orders by the beginning of September. After we arrive and are all unpacked I will do inventory and set up the webstore again.

In the meantime stay tuned to our blog and I will be sharing another exciting room transformation soon... Which room would you like to hear about next?

We're Moving....Again!

Well, it's official that bittersweet time in our life has come once again, a time that we knew would be coming eventually.
We are moving again!!!
Our store will be closing it's Napanee location permanently and we will be relocating to another part of the country and re-opening in the Summer/Fall 2017. We have really enjoyed being part of this area and this community for the past 4 years and will be very sad to go. There are so many great people, organizations and events around here, I am really going to miss it.
Upon closing the store we will have everything that is currently in store marked down to 25% off, we do not want to move these items across the country, please help us by spreading the word of our sale and help us move these products out. We will not be taking on any new custom orders at this time, with the exception of a few pairs of socks that we currently have blanks ready to be turned into something fun and quirky for the bottom of your feet.

Boxing Day Blowout Sale

If you've visited our website and looked around the online store, or if you've stopped by our shop then you will have seen that our counters are telling us that there are just 3 days and so many more hours left until Santa is coming to our homes, if you believe in that sort of thing. Regardless of your belief in Santa Claus there are only 3 days left until Christmas Day, of course you may not celebrate Christmas and that is perfectly fine, I wish you a Merry, Happy, Joyous, seasonal holiday of your own choosing. In our home we celebrate Christmas, it's my most favorite time of year. As you know I love to give and that includes discounts & Sales. Here in our area the day after Christmas is called "Boxing Day". What a wonderful day, similar to our Southern neighbors with Black Friday, the day after Thanksgiving; we have a huge sale (mind you it's not quite as large as Black Friday :( ) but it's a sale nonetheless. Here at Payette Custom Creations we have decided to have a huge Boxing Day Sale where EVERYTHING IN STORE and we're offering it all at 25-50% off.
"What's the catch?", yes, I heard you think that... the catch is that it's IN STORE only, one day only. And after our sale we will be closing the store for the rest of the year. As of 9 pm December 26th, 2016 we will be closed and will not reopen again until Monday, February 13th, 2017. In that time we will be doing a little renovation, a lot of making of new products and best of all, spending much overdue time with our family.

What's that? You live too far away and cannot come into the store? Don't worry, After the store closes on Boxing Day we will reopen our webstore (yes it will be shut down during our store's sale hours) and we will continue to have a "Boxing Week Sale" ONLINE ONLY where all remaining IN STOCK items will then be listed online for 25-50% off and the best part is, your orders will ship the SAME BUSINESS DAY, if you place your order by 7 pm EST. Our online Boxing Week Sale will run from December 26th at roughly 10pm until 11:59pm EST on Saturday, December 31st, 2016. At which time our webstore will return to it's former pumpkin form and all sales will end. But regular ordering will still be possible while our storefront is closed for the month of January. We will be happy to set up times for picking up of any items order ed from local customers, please just leave a list of 3 dates, that would work best for you for picking up, in your "order notes" so that we can arrange to accommodate your pick up.

I also want to take time, again, to thank everyone for their support and business this holiday season. It's been a pleasure to work with you all.

Ladies Night Out Shopping Event

Today we're attending the Ladies Night Out Shopping Event at the Strathacona Paper Center Here in Napanee, Ontario. I thought this would be another great opportunity to get our name out there and let the local community know about our little store.

After much consideration we have decided not to carry Scrapbook Supplies any longer. We have a smaller store and cannot stock our shelves with as many supplies as we'd like because they just aren't selling here. We are making everything 50% off and hoping to get them all cleared out promptly to make room for new products that will be hitting the shelves very shortly.
If you're interested stop in to the store, we're open Tuesdays and Wednesdays 9-4 and Fridays 9-4 5-9.

Single sheets of Cardstock, stickers, stamps, border punches, corner punches, embellishments, and more. Stop by to see what we have in store or check out the Clearance section of the website for frequent updates.

Write A Letter To Santa And He'll Write Back!

November 1st is approaching fast, that's the day I like to mail the letter to Santa. We like to get our letters to Santa in plenty of time for the kids to get a letter back in the mail. My middle daughter pointed out today that we didn't get a letter back the last couple of years. I have come to the conclusion that these little ones of mine have not been including a return address... Way to go kids!! This year mommy will be helping with that to ensure they get a reply.

If your children are writing letters to Santa send them to:

Santa Claus

North Pole

and make sure you include a return address so that they receive a letter in return.

With only 55 days left to get all of our wishes in, now is a good time to do so.

Have a great rest of your Sunday everyone.

Santa Claus Is Coming To Town...

Oh it's that glorious time of year again, we're eating turkey dinners and making turkey stew, leftover turkey sandwiches and pumpkin pie. We're getting ready to hang out with family and friends that we haven't seen in a year and we're getting super excited for the day the big guy comes. We have a fantastic Santa Sack for the big day. It's back by popular demand and awaiting your customization.
If you're interested in ordering one of these please place your order soon. We're only getting one shipment this year so once they're gone, they are gone. Follow THIS LINK to order your sack today. We currently have a 14 day turn around. This doesn't mean your order will definitely take 14 days but with all of the sign orders, t-shirt orders and other orders coming in we want to ensure that we don't fall behind. If you want to place another order or stop by a craft sale that we'll be attending this season please check out the where to buy section of our website for information on where we're going to be. Have a great day everyone, I better get back to work. Enjoy the rest of your week.
