Okay, so I do not have a lot of the products in stock yet that I would like to have.... yet being the word to remember here... they will be coming I just don't know when at the moment. I have wanted to get so many different items in the store but being unsure if they will sell or not makes it difficult to decide what to bring in. Yesterday a couple of ladies stopped into the store to see what we had in stock and I felt horrible..... I didn't have what they were looking for in stock yet. One of my biggest challenges since I have branched out to include scrapbook supplies into the store is knowing what to order in first. I know there are scrappers and card makers out there and I know they are like me and want everything; paper, embossing folders, stickers, dies, stamps (I need every stamp ever created!) and so much more. But what order do I get them in? I've got stickers, embossing folders, washi tape, other tapes, I have a few stamps, dies, machines coming but will they sell? It's so hard to know what to get in first. Which is why I offer items for pre-order. That way I know what to order for my customers, you tell me ahead of time and I order it and some more just because I want to have a variety :)
One of the problems I was faced with in the first month of the store's official opening was getting stock because of the Canada Post's back and forth mail strike threat, now that seems to be in the past so hopefully it doesn't happen again. And then there is the biggest problem facing me at the moment: the Canadian Dollar. For the companies I have that are Canadian there is no issue with the dollar, it is what it is. But lets face it, it's down and it's not coming back up for awhile. And a lot of scrapbook manufacturers and companies that I deal with are in the USA. With the dollar not what it once was I'm not able to get as much product because I'm spending more to buy less of the items themselves, then the shipping charges cost more, the duty costs more. All in all doing business with the US costs more right now. But despite all of that, I still keep my prices at the MSRP. For the products I get from the US I take their MSRP and I convert that into Canadian funds. I don't add anything more to it, I simply convert the value to Canadian, no gimmicks, no hidden charges...
The only time you will see the price more than just the exchange is in our Webstore. We have started offering "Free Shipping" in order to do that we made the decision to raise the cost of the items slightly to offset the cost of shipping. If you opt to use the PICKUP code online then 5% is deducted from your order before checking out, then you simply have to wait for your email letting you know that your order is packaged up and ready for pick up in our store.
I want to always conduct an honest business and I want people to know that the items purchased here are not marked up like so many places. They are the value they should be. Many of the stamp companies that I deal with have very strict rules to prevent price gouging, I really like dealing with those companies, we're in the same state of thinking and that means a lot to me. And even though the dollar is not too good right now, I'm not going to make my customers pay more just because I had to pay more. I chalk it up to the cost of doing business. If I get deals and discounts I like to pass those on to my customers as well. Why wouldn't everyone being do this for their customers? It seems to make perfect business sense to me.
I guess for me the thing is that I'm not in this to get rich, that would be great of course but not what it's about for me. I'm in this to provide quality products to people just like me who want to craft and be able to find products to craft with. Whether for business or pleasure; I want to help people find the products they need at prices they can afford. That's what it's all about for me here at Payette Custom Creations. So, if you think my prices are too high, I am sorry for that, but they are right where they are supposed to be as per the Manufacturer/Company.
As always I want to say thank you to all of those who continue to support our small Canadian Family Owned Business by shopping locally, within Canada, and for spreading the word. I appreciate the referrals to your friends and family, it means a lot to us. If there is anything we can do to help get you the scrapbook supplies you're looking for please don't hesitate to contact us. We look forward to helping you put your memories to paper.
